Micro Financing |
| The first United Nations Millennium Development Goal is to eliminate absolute poverty. The UN considers micro-financing an effective tool to help poor people stand up against poverty through self-employment. It is extremely worried that poverty level in Pakistan has jumped to 37.5 per cent. During the last three years, 28.5 million people were pushed below poverty line, increasing the size of population living in extreme poverty to 64 million. Shuki micro financing is completely interest-free with no service charges. The borrower’s only liability is to return the principle amount. Interest-free financing empowers the rural poor, especially women, to move them out of the poverty trap. |

Infrastructure Development |
| Even with ideal policies, the dream of alleviating poverty cannot be realised until there is proper investment in physical infrastructure. Efficient and adequate rural infrastructure reduces agricultural production costs, bring people closer to the market and opportunities, and intensify economic activities of the rural population contributing to improving rural livelihoods. Rural infrastructure development constitutes a substantial component of Sukhi activities. Sukhi’s planning for infrastructure development is again participatory involving the target community to identify real development needs and taking responsibility for their own future. |

Community Mobilization |
| The primary goal of the Social Mobilisation Programme is to enhance the institutional capacity of communities to implement and manage development programmes through participatory approach to serve as agents of lasting change. To achieve this goal, communities are mobilised to form village committees at the grassroots level. To date, Sukhi has facilitated the formation and strengthening of over 600 village organisations, mother groups, volunteer groups and school management committees across Azad Kashmir. Around 11,300 members make up these groups.
Sukhi’s approach towards village selection and subsequent social organisation’s formation follows criteria, consistent for all partner communities. |

Livelihoods |
| Neelum Valley is a highly vulnerable district in terms of food security. Difficult terrain, low household landholding with much less cultivable lands, poor hydro-physical properties of the soil leading to poor soil water retention, absence of formal irrigation system, high soil loss, poor livestock and natural resource management practices, and other sociopolitical situation in the areas have been threatening the livelihood system year after year, thus leading to food insecurity problem for underprivileged sections of society.
The poor economic situation of the rural populations has also led to heavy destruction and degradation of tropical forests by the local community for meeting their livelihood needs. |

Flood Emergency Appeal |
| More than 14 million people have been affected by the floods provoked by heavy rains. Many areas have been cut off due to rising water. Floods driven by record-breaking rainfall have killed least 1600 people and destroyed thousands of homes over the past week.
Sukhi Development Foundation is providing emergency relief to thousands of people affected by severe flooding in Neelam Valley, Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) Pakistan. The food insecurity zone mapping of Pakistan ranks this valley as among the most food insecure zones of the country. The flood-affected communities of this area are at high risk of food insecurity and Sukhi is seeking donor support to continue recovery and rehabilitation activities.
The majority of the casualties in AJK have been in the Neelam Valley areas along the Indian border, where thousands of mud houses were swept away, in flood water, along with bridges, small hydro power projects, irrigation channels, roads, and crops. Sukhi is offering emergency relief to ravaged areas of Neelam Valley by providing food items and medicines. The rapid assessment found that a large population is without food or shelter and in immediate need of emergency relief items, like food items, tents, medicine, sleeping mats, blankets, plastic tanks, and plastic sheets.

Rural Health Care & Sanitation Program |
| Getting health care can be a problem when you live in a remote area. You might not be able to get to a hospital quickly in an emergency. You also might not want to travel long distances to get routine checkups and screenings. Rural areas often have fewer doctors and dentists, and certain specialists might not be available at all. The purpose of Sukhi’s Rural Heath care Programme is to improve access to primary care in underserved rural areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Sukhi Rural Health Care Programme aims at educating women and girls, and enabling families to adopt appropriate hygiene practices. In addition, Sukhi also supports different income-generating projects. |

Women Empowerment |
| Women make more than half of Sukhi’s target population and visible majority of the poor. Women either solely or largely support an increasing number of families. Development projects that are meant to improve common man’s living conditions cannot be effective until women actively participate in them and benefit from them. Sukhi encourages women to bring their leadership qualities, knowledge and skills into the development agenda through this participatory approach. |

Education Support Program |
| Effective education system first changes the way of thinking and then changes the way of doing things, and all this leads to changing the community.
Apart from economic benefits, education also brings huge social benefits, not merely in terms of health and personal well-being, but is the natural transfer of knowledge to others – children, relatives, and friends – a multiplier effect. That’s why, Sukhi lays special emphasis on education, especially for the poor and deprived communities.

Agriculture Development Program |
| Agriculture is not only a profession but a way of life in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and a major source of livelihood for rural dwellers. There is a huge potential of productivity enhancement by exploiting the comparative advantage of Agro-Ecological and Micro Ecological Agro Zones and by making a shift from traditional farming to high-value oriented commercial and semi commercial farming system.
Sukhi Agriculture Development Programme aims at enhancing small farm income by exploiting comparative advantage of mountain agriculture, developing horticulture sector and increasing capacity building for community participation. |
