Sukhi Working in Flood-ravaged Areas Pakistan
More than 14 million people have been affected by the floods provoked by heavy rains. Many areas have been cut off due to rising water. Floods driven by record-breaking rainfall have killed least 1600 people and destroyed thousands of homes over the past week .
Sukhi Development Foundation is providing emergency relief to thousands of people affected by severe flooding in Neelum Valley, Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) Pakistan.  The food insecurity zone mapping of Pakistan ranks this valley as among the most food insecure zones of  the country. The flood-affected communities of this area are at hight risk of food insecurity and Sukhi is seeking donor support to cotinue recovery and rehabilitation activities. The majority of the casualities in Azad Kashmir have been in the Neelum Valley areas along the Indian border, where thousands of mud houses were swept away, in flood water  along with bridges, small hydro power projects, irrigation channels, roads, and crops. Sukhi is offering emergency relief to ravaged areas of Neelum Valley by providing food items and medicines.  The rapid assessment found that a large population is without food or shelter and in immediate need of emergency relief items, like food, tents, medicine, sleeping mats, blankets, plastic tanks, and plastic sheets.
Sukhi is a Kashmir based development organization already working in Neelum Valley since 2008 in the field of livelihoods, micor hydropower generation, development of irrignation, environment, health and hygiene, and in reproductive health. The Neelum Valley 144 km long bow-shaped with majestic pine, fir and deodar trees, lies north-south of Muzaffarabad (Capital of AJK). Despite  this rich natural wealth, the valley is unfortunately the poorest region in AJK. Essential means of income and revenue of the local populace residing in small hamlets and islated houses on mountainous patches are based largely on livestock production, agriculture-related activities and miscellaneus and daily-wage activites. Very restricted employment opportunities are availabale in either the government or private sector.
Our volunteers are an amazing force for good, but we need more of them.
